Customer Reviews
Lots of fun to play, but overall just a bit
disappointing.
I was eager in anticipation
of this title. Quality fps is a genre that leaves much to be desired on
the Wii. Heck... QUALITY games are lacking on the Wii, with only a
handful of worthy titles in the entire catalog of games. So, I had
really high hopes for the game. I will say that, without a doubt, this
game is worth buying. Many sites have reviewed this game quite harshly,
in my humble opinion. The basic game play is solid, and there are some
really good things about this game. Some of the cut-scenes are really
cool, the music and voice acting are top-notch, and the online is really
well done (I experienced absolutely ZERO lag). That said, I did have a
few gripes with this game. First, there are some framerate issues.
During some of the more intense action scenes, the game seemed to hang a
bit, and that was disappointing. Also, I am not sure how I feel about
the quality of the presentation. The cut-scenes are really well done.
However, while actual gameplay had some really well done portions (the
backgrounds are beautiful in some parts), the character design and
detail were pretty weak. Bonds hands (from the FPS perspective) looked
like a pair of pig hoofs sloppily holding a gun. Overall, the game looks
presentable... but I cant help but wonder if Beenox (the game
developer) could have done better. I look at some of the late
PlayStation 2 titles (like Metal Gear 2).... and a lot of them look
better than most Wii games. This game really looked a lot like
CounterStrike 1 or Half-Life 1 (which were GREAT games 5 years ago). It
plays a lot like them too. To sum things up:
The Good:
*Controls
are really well done, in my opinion. I just wish there was support for
the gamecube controller or the classic controller, since not everyone
likes using the wiimote+nunchuck. I do like the wiimote+nunchuck, so
this worked well.
*The menus are well done and easy to navigate
*The
online portion utilizing Nintendo WFC is really stable. I am not sure
how many people can play in one game at a time. I have heard as many as
12 and I have heard as low as 4... and I think at one point in one of
the games I played as many as 5 or 6 people were in. Playing online, I
experienced zero lag, and the online games were really fun, and the
levels are large... plenty of places to seek cover and snipe! And yes,
Goldeneye fans... there are PROXIMITY MINES! ;)
*Quality voice acting
and cut-scenes... not to mention you get to hear the new Bond song
before the movie even comes out~!
*You get a free movie ticket to
watch the Quantum of Solace movie when you buy the game! (No kidding! )
The ticket is in the instruction manual and can be redeemed between Nov
14 and Dec 18 (or somewhere around then). This was a pleasant surprise
for me!
*Local split screen play: I cant wait to try this. I haven't
had a chance to yet, but the game play is solid online, so local play
will be great. The only problem is that if you want 4 friends to be able
to come over and play, you will need 4 wiimotes and 4 nunchucks! =(
*Some
aspects of the presentation during gameplay are really cool: Enemies
react different when shot in different parts of the body. The 3rd person
cover system works really well. Enemy AI was also quite surprising.
Enemies will run for cover and will flank you. I noticed that the enemy
AI was more impressive when you played the game taking advantage of
cover and stealth. If you just charge a group of enemies, they react
like dumb bots... but when you try to use cover and stealth, they will
do the same. Overall, I was happy and was challenged.
The Bad:
*Every
now and then during intense action sequences (like at one point when
the building that I was in was on fire and stuff was exploding all over
the place as I tried to escape), the frame rate dropped significantly.
Overall, the game seems to run smooth, and this issue was definitely the
exception, not the norm. But, this was still disappointing!
*Presentation
was a bit of a let down. The levels give a nice feeling of being wide
open for exploration, but things can get kinda buggy. For instance, some
low walls cant be jumped over, while others cant. I hate how bonds
hands look when holding a handgun. They look better when holding other
weapons, and I guess that this really isnt a big deal... more of a
gripe. I just wish that this game looked a bit more polished like
Metroid Prime 3 (or the Conduit!!!), but again, the graphics are kinda
hard to call! It looks great at times, and not so great at other times.
Overall, I would rate the graphical presentation at about a 6 or 7 out
of 10 (as far as Wii games go... :[ )
*No alternative control
schemes. My friends who don't have a Wii like to use GameCube
controllers for most games, so they will be disappointed.
All in
all, I am pleased with this game, and got what I wanted...a satisfying
fps/action game to keep me busy until The Conduit comes out!
Quantum of Solace Wii
"The best bond game since
Goldeneye" was pretty close. Quantum of Solace is a first person/third
person hybrid shooter, which has you use an array of weapons, grenades,
and takedowns to advance through single player. Whenever you crouch
behind a wall or an object, it switches into third person and you can
see Bond. Quantum of Solace consists of Casino Royale and Quantum of
Solace so you get to play through both movies! Let me tell you, the
missions are very interesting, fun, and makes you think becuase, after
all, Bond's greatest weapon is his mind. The AI is also very intelligent
and will do anything to kill you.
The multiplayer is a blast if
you have four friends. Otherwise, stick to single player and online.
It's great for parties and gatherings, though, and for your Xbox lover
friends who only play FPS's.
The real meat of the game comes in
the online mode. Using Nintendo WFC, you can connect online and play a
free for all or an objective race in teams or alone. It is the best part
of the game I'll tell you that.
The controls are really simple
and are great to pick up & play. I'd recommend using the Wiimote and
Nunchuck and not the Zapper. The control is harder with the Zapper.
With B to shoot and A to crouch, you'll be on your way to 007 in no
time!
Overall, Quantum of Solace is, in my opinion, the second
best Bond game since Goldeneye. The first being Nightfire. I loved that
game. Overall, I'd give it a 8.5/10. Buy it!
Highly entertaining single player, addicitive
multiplayer.
When I heard about this game I
wasn't expecting much. All the games after Goldeneye have been decent
but overall a disappointment. Well Goldeneye fans rejoice, this is hands
down the best Bond game to come out since the N64 classic.
The
single player is very cinematic and exciting retaining the old school
feel with modern touches. I think new fans and old fans will be very
happy.
As for the multiplayer, it is amazing! It isn't redefining
the genre by any means but it is just plain fun and highly addictive.
The cover system works perfect and I really like the credit system to
upgrade your weapons. It uses the same engine as Call Of Duty 4 and
since I played the hell out of that jumping into a Team Conflict match
in Quantum Of Solace feels very natural.
Even though Gears Of War
2 will be coming out soon and I will be spending most of my time
playing that I am still very glad I bought this. Its a refreshing change
from the games that try to do too much. Overall, highly recommended.
