Reviews
Does not work with Windows 7
Although this is version
2010, it does not work with my 2009 operating system: Windows 7. Granted
it does not list Windows 7 as a compatible operating system; I assumed
that since my older Hoyle games work on Windows 7, this newer version
would too. No.
A Day & Night At The
Hoyle Palace
I have this game for close to
a week now and got it at a local store. For the most part, it is a
really awesome game. The game includes all the characters from the Hoyle
Card game casino Blackjack ( Eddie, Joe, Marcus, Nigel, Tommy, Michele,
Kelly, Anne, Yvonne ) and some new characters ( I don't remember all
the names, I just remember Greg and Jen) that were not in the Card Game
disc. If you already have Card Game on your pc, you won't have to redo
your Face Creator on the Casino game, because somehow your face
transfers over as long as you use the exact name and exact spelling from
the Card game.
It has various table, slots, and horse racing and
Keno. Even various poker styles. The only negative is that it does not
explain how to write in your bet for the horse racing game, so be not
surprised if you cannot play the horse game.
The characters are
not as talkative or as lively as they were in the Card Game version, but
my recommendations for characters are Nigel, Marcus, Joe, Anne, and
Kelly, in that order. Nigel and Marcus, especially Nigel, are so
comical.
And when choosing your voice, beware that different
voices say different things, so when picking a voice for youself, don't
just go for sound, but what they speak as well!
So grab that grub
and choice beverage, and enjoy a "night" out whenever! You can even
enjoy this game with a person you know if you want.
Can't see the cards
The eye candy abounds with
this new version. However, in blackjack and let it ride, it is difficult
to read the dealer's cards. For some unknown reason the card size of
the dealer's hand is about half that of the players hand causing
mistakes in reading what the dealer has. In blackjack, the Card Game
version allowed you to use the keyboard for repeat bet, stand, hold,
split and surrender, which is especially handy. You can't use the
keyboard in this new version and it slows everything down to a crawl. I
like my action fast just like at the real casino.
The slot
machines are greatly outmatched by the Masque Publishing slot games also
sold on Amazon. The slots with this casino game aren't actual slot
games used by casinos and the difference shows to anyone who has ever
really played a live slot machine in the casino.
In the Casino
card games you get the same characters that were in Hoyle's Card Games
and some are funny and good, others are completely annoying. At least
you get to pick which ones you want to play with in this new version, so
that helps. The other feature that is missing from all blackjack
software is the ability to choose your position at the table. No one
likes playing "second base" all the time.
